Join us for a six-week intensive course on writing for the television business–from great idea to polished pilot and everything in-between. We’re featuring guest speakers Sonny Postiglione, Alex Hertzberg and super secret surprise guest to be announced.

Classes start on November 12th and go weekly until December 17th, 2024, at the Los Angeles Film School.

THE INDUSTRY PERSPECTIVE

We’re going to start the series with all things managers, agents, markets and the state of the business today. This class will feature industry guest Alex Hertzberg for a talk and q&a.

Okay, so you have an idea for a TV show. What now? The second class will take participants through the initial steps to take when inspiration hits.

CREATING YOUR FORMAT AND PITCH DECK

So your agent/manager/mom loves your idea! What’s next? This class will take a detailed look at what makes a great format. 

Week Four 12-03-24

PITCHING YOUR SHOW

It’s time to share your baby with the world. This week we welcome the one and only Sonny Postiglione to workshop the art of pitching.

Week Five 12-10-24

BREAKING YOUR PILOT

Congrats! You sold your show! Now you get to write your pilot. This class will go over what breaking a pilot entails and the tips and tricks to get people invested in your show from the very first episode.

Week Six 12-17-24

MOCK WRITERS’ ROOM

Ever wonder what it’s like to be in a real writers’ room? This class welcomes a super secret surprise guest to head up a mock writers’ room where the class is the staff.

We need you to have an idea which is fairly fleshed out of what you want your television show to be about.

There Will be Homework

Of course there will be homework! You’re taking a series on television writing which means you are a writer and there will be lots of writing involved.

Instructor: Adria Lang

Writer, Co-Executive Producer, Producer and Director. She’s best known for INVINCIBLE, You, The Devil in Silver, American Gods, Berlin Station, Fantasy Island, Helix and Sons of Anarchy among others. She directed and wrote the upcoming There is No Antimemetics Division.

Instructor: Scarlett Amaris

Screenwriter and Director. Scarlett has written on numerous genre films including Color out of Space, starring Nicolas Cage, and was a finalist in the Bram Stoker Awards by the Horror Writers Association for superior screenplay achievement. Films she’s written have won awards at TIFF, Fantastic Fest, H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival and others. A few years ago, she made the leap to television, and has been instrumental in developing various series.

Guest Speaker: Sonny Postiglione

We’re thrilled to welcome writer and producer Sonny Postiglione to workshop the art of pitching. You know him best from Knightfall, The Vampire Diaries, Law & Order and Bloodline. He’s also worked on Life On Mars, NYPD Blue and 666 Park Avenue.

Guest Speaker: Alex Hertzberg

Alex will be joining us as an industry guest for a talk and q&a, bringing his expertise to the session on agents, managers, markets, and the state of the business today. He’s the Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Literary. His clients are primarily writers, directors and/or showrunners working within the film and television industries.
